Title: Principal, Secondary Schools
Reports to: Superintendent
General Definition of Work: Responsible for maintaining the instructional program, student activities, discipline, maintenance of the school plan, and supervision of staff.
Essential Functions: Provide for the continuing development and implementation of an effective instructional program through classroom supervision and instructional leadership Utilize available supervisory personnel as needed to ensure an effective instructional program Provide an instructional program consistent with the goals and objectives of the school division Work with the school staff and community to maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning and appropriate behavior Assign students to classes, programs, and activities designed to promote maximum learning opportunities Organize and supervise matters related to student registration, scheduling, orientation, and the development of the master schedule Supervise and evaluate the performance of each professional member of the school staff and establish individual programs for improvement consistent with the division’s staff development program Advise the personnel office of staff needs and participate in recruitment, employment, assignment, promotion transfer, non-renewal, and dismissal of certificated and classified personnel Foster effective home-school communication by providing opportunities for parents and teachers to discuss student progress and other matters of mutual concern, and by encouraging community involvement in school activities Supervise and evaluate all student activities and athletic programs to ensure appropriate student discipline at all sponsored events Foster effective school-community relations by working with the School Support Team and other appropriate organizations and agencies and by facilitating community use for the school as established by division policy Work with other school and division administrators to provide for horizontal and vertical articulation of the instructional program Exercise leadership in the development, implementation, and interpretation of division and school policies and regulations Promote positive working relationships with and among staff members focused on employee support and retention Devise and administer a school budget, utilizing all available funds which is consistent with division instructional and administrative goals Be involved in professional enrichment to the extent necessary to keep abreast of developments in secondary education and the field of education generally. Utilize the knowledge gained to foster innovation in and advancement of the entire school program Maintain proper utilization, care, and attractiveness of buildings and grounds Perform other duties assigned by the superintendent
Education and Job Experience:
License/Endorsements: Valid state license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12 Contract Period: 12 months
