The following knowledge, skills, and dispositions are expected of the position:
- Thorough knowledge of Pre-K-12 instructional programs
- Ability to use data to make instructional decisions
- Ability to communicate well orally and in writing
- Ability to collaboratively lead staff and communicate effectively with multiple audiences
- Knowledge of instructional technology
- Sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity (able to lift 30 pounds unassisted) to perform expected tasks
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to , the following functions and tasks:
- Assists in the formulation of philosophy, goals, and objectives for the instructional program of the school division for all grade levels (PreK-12).
- Provides leadership in the development and implementation of an integrated curriculum and program of instruction for PreK-12.
- Directly supervises directors and coordinators at the Central Office in the areas of instruction, special education, student services, technology, and testing.
- Provides direction for the Technology Plan, ensures technology is integrated into instruction, and has oversight of all hardware and software.
- Provides direction for specific programs to include but not limited to: Elementary Programs, Secondary Programs, Virginia Literacy Act, ESEA Programs, Special Education Programs, School Counseling Services, CTE Programs, Health Services, Adult Education, Library/Media Services, Gifted Programs, English Learners, Governor’s School, Valley Scholars, Dual Enrollment, and PreK/VPI programs.
- Provide direction for the system-wide testing program.
- Assists in coordinating the system-wide administrative staff meetings and other division events such as New Teacher Orientation and Convocation.
- Oversees the adoption of instructional materials.
- Interprets existing curricula and projected changes to the School Board, the staff, and the community.
- Serves as school system representative for instructional regional programs.
- Assists in the preparation and administration of the budget.
- Serves as contact for state and regional accreditation agencies.
- Write and submit grants that would enhance instructional programming or support division initiatives.
- Generates instructional reports required by the Standards of Quality and state, federal, and regional agencies.
- Oversees the collection, dissemination, and analysis of all instructional data with respect to state and federal accountability and accreditation.
- Oversees the division’s Virginia Tiered Systems of Support program and grant funding.
- Provides direction for the analysis of division instructional needs and oversees the implementation of innovative practices to meet those needs.
- Develops, implements, and coordinates appropriate programs of professional development.
- Serves in the absence of the superintendent as the chief administrative officer of the school system.
- Keeps the superintendent informed and works collaboratively with all other administrators in school and division-related matters.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Hold a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with Administration & Supervision PK-12 or equivalent endorsement. At least three years of teaching experience. Central Office leadership experience preferred. Doctorate preferred.
